About the NBO
The Northern Beaches Orchestra (NBO) is a community orchestra for musicians of AMEB Grade 6 standard and above (strings), and AMusA standard (wind and brass). As a not-for-profit organisation, we provide opportunities for musicians to excel musically while enriching the cultural life of our local community.
The NBO performs four to six concerts per year, including the Gala Concert of the Northern Beaches Instrumental Festival and the Northern Beaches Council Christmas Choral Concert.
We rehearse and perform at the John Scott Hall, St Luke’s Grammar School, 210 Headland Road, Dee Why. Underground parking is available beneath the school, with access to the hall and car park via Tango Avenue.
Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings during school term, from 7:15pm to 9:15pm. Players arrive by 7pm to set up and warm up.

Music for the next generation
We’re passionate about supporting the next generation of musicians. Alongside the NBO, our youth ensembles give young players opportunities to develop their skills, build confidence and experience the joy of making music together.
Northern Beaches Junior Strings (NBJS)
NBJS is a new ensemble for young violin, viola, cello and double bass players, primarily of primary-school age. Aimed at approximately AMEB Preliminary to Grade 3 standard or equivalent, it helps young musicians develop ensemble skills, build confidence and discover the rewards of playing together.
Northern Beaches Youth Orchestra (NBYO)
NBYO welcomes upper-primary and high-school musicians playing at approximately AMEB Grade 3 to Grade 6 standard, or equivalent. As a youth symphony orchestra, it offers young musicians opportunities to grow musically, perform and experience the excitement of orchestral playing.
Together, our ensembles support a lifelong love of music, creating opportunities for musicians at different stages of their musical journey to learn, perform and connect.
The Northern Beaches Orchestra acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the lands across Australia upon which we live and work. In particular we acknowledge the Gayamagal and Garigal of the Eora Nation, upon whose land we rehearse and perform. We pay our deep respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
